sometimes i overflow
Presented by the Topics in Advanced Photography Spring 2020 cohort, "sometimes i overflow" is a virtual exhibition of our cumulative semester-long projects in the photographic medium. In Senior, Jackie Marks’,  artist statement, she weaved together this collective body of work as, “Sentiments of time, archival findings, and personal reflection.”  With content ranging from the human psyche, narratives concealed by political context, and the telling of stories that are sometimes not our own; "sometimes i overflow "is an evaluation of the human condition. We meditate on our relationships with ourselves and the world around us through an array of media including video, collage, and text. We collectively tackle broader concepts such as the relationship of personal and public history, the act of preservation, and the ephemeral nature of art making. This website features links to each artists’ individual projects, allowing our work to function both independently and as a part of a greater message (replace word). Sophomore, Booker Johnson explains his process as, “ the pouring of thoughts, feelings, desires, whims, happenstantial accidents, paranoid speculations, beautiful dilemmas, wanderings, and wonderings to osmose into the work.” Within this digital space, we collectively engage in an outpour of emotion, perception, ideas, and ideology culminating in "sometimes i overflow."
